During the 1930s, hand-built model racecars — known as “spindizzies” or tether cars — surged in popularity. Crafted by dedicated hobbyists, these miniature machines raced around steeply banked wooden tracks at speeds nearing 150 miles per hour. Styled after the full-sized racing cars of the era, multiple spindizzies would compete simultaneously, each tethered by cables to a central pole and powered by model airplane engines as they raced against the clock. Streamlined and remarkably detailed, these were far more than toys. They were mechanical works of art, showcasing the ingenuity and pioneering technology of their time. Built using original blueprints, our Bantam Midget model faithfully captures the spirit and precision of the original down to the finest detail. One glance is all it takes to feel the thrill of stepping up to the starting line.
