Learn more about our Corten Steel Cube Pond... How are your Corten Steel Ponds made? Since our inception, the team at Weather It has been instilled with the goal of handmaking all our products right here in the UK. And we’ve stuck to that aspiration through to the present day. Our highly skilled and expert craftsmen and fabricators get to work on your Corten steel water trough, by using our comprehensive and high-tech laser cutting techniques. This ensures exact precision on even the most bespoke trough ponds we produce. We cut and form the Corten sheet metal into a trough shape to your exact sized specifications. As each pond is made to order, the handcrafted process is unique, meaning your trough pond will be completely individual from any other. You won’t be able to notice the welding on the corners or connecting sides, thanks to our professional fabricators smoothing them out on both the inside and outside. Weather It prides itself on seamless, top-quality ponds for all to enjoy. What is my Corten Steel Pond Made of? Our Corten steel water trough are made from premium, 3mm thick Corten steel that, while having a higher upfront cost, has numerous benefits, so you can gain a worthwhile investment from the very best material possible. Corten steel was originally developed as a steel that wouldn’t need additional painting or protective coating on the steel surface. We took this great idea and applied it to the products we make and supply. When subjected to the elements, Corten steel begins to weather and develops a protective ‘rust-like’ layer on the surface that makes it highly resistant to corrosion. The Corten steel starts off looking like regular, grey, high-grade steel, and over a period of around 2-12 months will transform into a beautiful patina that features autumnal shades of orange, brown and red. In addition to the uniqueness of how we make your trough pond, the patina that develops will also vary, as it all depends on the climate and weather where the trough pond is placed. How Will my Corten Trough Pond Arrive? With all our products, we have a trusted network of couriers who will happily deliver your Corten steel water trough straight to your door. As we make all trough ponds by hand, there will be a waiting time – but don’t worry – we work our socks off to ensure short lead times so you can enjoy your garden trough pond in the shortest amount of time. If your pond is over 2 metres in length, offloading will be required on your property. Please contact us and let us know if you don’t have offloading space and we can quote you, and organise, for Moffatt or crane delivery. Ponds under 2 metres in length will be delivered using a tail lift. All deliveries will be tracked to give you peace of mind knowing where they are in transit, and when they will arrive. How do I maintain my Corten steel trough pond? Just when you thought Corten steel couldn’t get any better – you won’t have to maintain it! The natural oxide layer that forms provides all the protection you will ever need. It is important to ensure you have prepared sufficient foundations or footings to place your pond on, as they are very heavy when filled. How do I Fill my Pond? Your Corten steel water trough will arrive ready to be filled with water. You can fill your pond using collected rainwater. While it is not recommended to fill using tap water, if this is your only means, fill buckets with tap water and leave them at room temperature for at least 24 hours to allow the chlorine to dissipate. Want to Add Another Element to Your Water Feature? We offer a full range of water pumps and fountains for our water features, with independent power supplies so they can be turned off during the night. The option for hidden LED lighting will also make your ponds look amazing in the dark. Other things to note During the weathering process, the patina will ‘run off’ the trough when exposed to rainwater, and other moisture and can stain the surrounding area where the trough is placed. So please be aware of this when you decide where you want it located. We can also deliver trough ponds during different stages of the weathering process. If you want a water pump or fountain for your trough pond, please let us know when ordering. Once production has started, we may not be able to change things on request.
