Description ‘La Jolla Cove’, 2023 Minju Li of Minju Li Studio Colored Pencil on Cotton Paper – 9″ x 12″ on 1.5″ matFrame included I remember how fascinated I was when I first learned about ‘The Rouen Cathedral series’ by Monet. I hadn’t known that light could change the colors so drastically that although it was the same place on different days, each painting was distinctively unique. Perhaps that was the moment I fell in love with landscape paintings. To paint and to see. In this newest series, I wanted to capture special moments and places. Colored pencils were such a perfect medium to use. From the way light shed through lush green trees, how trails were filled with wildflowers after a very long drought, a warm afternoon in a historic town, early morning in the desert, and the beautiful Californian coast. Layer by layer, these came to life and I’m thrilled to share them with you. Minju Li is an artist born in Korea and currently based in Orange County, California. She studied fine art in college and received her bachelor’s degree at Seoul National Univ. of Science and Technology. After graduating, she came to the United States when she turned 25 and started her career as a graphic designer and artist at a wall decor wholesaler.
